Common Questions

 Q. What is a massage?

A. A massage is a general term for pressing, rubbing and manipulating the skin, muscles, tendons and ligaments. I usually use my hands and fingers for massage but I may use my forearms, elbows , therapeutic vibrators or hot stones. The massage may range from light stroking to deep techniques, depending on how tense you are.

There are many different types of massages, but I focus on the most common types:

*Swedish Massage. This is a gentle type of massage that uses long strokes, kneading, deep circular movements, vibrations and tapping to help relax and energize you

*Deep Tissue Massage. this technique uses slower more forceful strokes to target the deeper layers of the muscles and connective tissues commonly to help with muscle damage from injuries.

*Sports Massage.  this is similar to swedish massage but its gearded towards those involved in sports activities to help prevent or treat injuries.

*Trigger Point Massage. this massage focuses on trigger points, or sensitive areas of tight muscle fibers that can form in your muscles after injury or overuse.

*Foot Massage. This massage primarily focuses on relieving any pains associated with overuse or illness and improving circulation to the feet. Foot massages are different from the others because you have to be sitting comfortably upright. Your feet will first be soaked, soaked and exfoliated in an aromatherapeutic wash. Reflexology will be implemented into the session as well.Anyone can benefit from a foot massage--especially those who are constantly on their feet, those suffering from injuries, circulation problems, ulcers,(i.e, diabetics), etc.

* Hot Stone Massage. ***most popular***please refer to full description below.

   HOT STONE MASSAGE

Hot stone massage is a form of massage therapy in which water heated stones are placed at specific sites on the client to penetrate the body and promote muscle relaxation which will facilitate deeper tissue manipulations. The stones are first sanitized with a disinfectant. They are then "seasoned" and then placed in a heating vessel filled with water  to be heated to a specific degree. While heating, oil is placed on clients entire body and is given an initial massage. The stones are then placed along specific areas of the clients's back, toes or anywhere else the client's trigger points may be  located. Once the stones are cooled, they are removed and the body is massaged thoroughly.

The many benefits of this type of massage are listed below. In addition, it helps promote deep muscle and tissue relaxation, helps treat back pain, MS, fibromyalgia, insomnia, depression and many more debilitating conditions.

Though Hot Stone Therapy is very beneficial for one's well being, it is NOT recommended for some people, including:

*those with infectious skin disease, rash or open wounds

*immediately after surgery

Q. What about safety?

A. Safety is paramount!!!When making an appointment for a session, I will ALWAYS inquire about your allergies, illnesses, breathing problems, etc. as they may be exacerbated during the session. A massage should never be so painful that you become uncomfortable. If any part of your massage doesnt feel right or is painful, please speak up right away. Most serious problems comes from excessive uncoordinated pressure during the massage which I try to avoid at all costs.

In rare circumstances, a massage done improperly can result in: internal bleeding,

nerve damage, temporary paralysis and allergic reactions to the massage oils or lotions

 Q. What should I expect during my first session?

A. When I arrive, I will have you fill out a quick questionaire which will give me an idea of which areas to work on and then we will take a couple of minutes to discuss them and to find out if there are any contraindications or health issues you may have that may prevent me from performing  the massage** especially the hot stone version** I will then ask you to undress depending on the type of massage you desire. I will show you all of my materials and explain what each of them is for so there wont be any surprises. After you are on the massage table, I will drape a sheet over the parts of the body Im not working on at the moment.  Soothing/easy listening music will be played and the massage oils will be warmed for your comfort and then the session will begin. ( I will also hand you a step-by-step pamphlet so you can follow along as well). After the session, Ii will give you a bottle of water to rehydrate and to flush out any substances or wastes your skin and muscles will release as Im manipulating them. Depending on the type of massage you desire, the session could last from 30 minutes to an hour.

 Q. What do I wear during the massage?

A. Depending on the massage, you may or may not need to undress. For a full body massage, most people undress completely. However, you may choose to wear underwear if you are not comfortable in the nude.Once on the massage table,  the body part not being worked on will be draped with a sheet and/or blanket at all times to ensure your comfort and privacy.

Q. What type of massage oils do you use?

A. I usually use either sweet almond oil, safflower oil, avocado oil or cocoa butter oil or a combination of each of them. All 4 of these oils are excellent sources of antioxidants which feed and nourishes the skin and combining them maximizes the benefits that only one can provide. They are also very effective in helping me with the gliding manuevers.***PLEASE NOTE*** If you are allergic to tree nuts, please let me know in advance so I will find an alternative to the almond oil.

Q. What makes you different from every other massage services in the area?

A.Because my service is mobile and very affordable. I offer you the convenience of having your sessions performed within the comfort and privacy of your home, thereby eliminating the hassle of being just a number at other big businesses. Our session will be one- on- one which will enable me to give you my full attention

Q. Where in my home will the session be held?

A. It will usually be performed in an opened area. I have my own portable massage table which I will set up and have you lay on in order to assure your comfort and in order for the session to be as effective as possible.

Q.  Which parts of the body are massaged?

A.  For full body massages, I usually massage the entire body from head to toe in order to stimulate circulation. I also focus  on trigger areas you may be having issues with.

Q. I am overweight. Can I still receive a massage?

A. OF COURSE! As a professional massage therapist I am not giving you a massage to judge your body or make you feel uncomfortable. I truly want you to have a very enjoyable experience. If you think your weight may be an issue, then we can discuss one of many adjustments necessary to accomodate you.
